Maulana Muhammad Mamunul Haque, deputy general secretary of Hifazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, said that if there were legal, moral, political and state capacity, all the sculptures would be removed from the city. He said that his position was against the sculpture, not against Bangabandhu in any way.

He said this while addressing a press conference at the Khilafat Majlis office in Purana Paltan at 12 noon on Sunday. Mamunul Haque said: “I fully respect Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the great leader of Bangladesh’s freedom struggle as a late Muslim leader, and pray for the forgiveness of his soul. I am never opposed in any way to such a late national leader and I don’t even think it’s appropriate to do so.

Mamunul, general secretary of the Khilafah Majlis of Bangladesh, said he would go against any attempt to install a sculpture in the state. But don’t get involved in any war against the state. Do not take any action that is reckless or that endangers the safety of life and property.

In response to a question, Mamunul Haque said: ‘I did not float the Bangabandhu sculpture on the Buriganga or make any such statement. I have said that no sculpture will stay away from the ideological place. He said: “Since I spoke out against sculpture, I have said it unequivocally, whoever the sculpture is, be it Ziaur Rahman or anyone else, I am against sculpture. I’ve been demanding the removal of all the sculptures.

If we can legally, morally, politically and politically, we will take the initiative to remove all sculptures, including sculptures by Ziaur Rahman, from Muslim peoples.
