We are against sculpture, not against Bangabandhu: Mamunul Haque

Again, our statement is against sculpture, not against Bangabandhu in any way. ‘

Hefazat-e-Islami Deputy Secretary General and Bangladesh Khilafah Majlis Secretary General Maulana Mamunul Haque made the remarks at a press conference at the Bangladesh Khilafah Majlis headquarters on Sunday (November 29).

He said that the peace-loving Touhidi people have been angry about the issue of the construction of the Bangabandhu sculpture at Dholaipara in Dhaka for some time. Academics protest against the non-Islamic culture of making sculptures of people or animals from an Islamic point of view. In that formula, I have also raised my statement against the construction of sculptures and statues. But a mahal is trying to call this opposition to the construction of the sculpture as the opposition of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. My statement on this is unequivocal.

Mamunul Haque said, I have been prevented from having mahfil for some time based on some incorrect information. Some government organizations are protesting against me. I think it is important to present my statement to the nation, including my political and ideological position.

‘You are aware of my family identity. My father is the late Shaykhul Hadith Allama Azizul Haque, a renowned hadith scholar from the subcontinent and national leader of Bangladesh. He was one of the four main leaders of the quadripartite alliance and the Awami League signed a memorandum of understanding with the Khilafah Majlis in 2008 after agreeing with the five ideological points given by him. ‘

“My father has represented a historical trend, both religious and political, that is well known in the subcontinent as the Deobandi trend,” he said. I am also a political activist of that genre. My political goal is to achieve the well-being of the country, the nation and humanity by establishing the victory of Islam in the broader social and political arena.

“My promise is to try to achieve the goal through a transparent political process. We do not have any program against the country, state or government through any secret conspiracy or collusion. ‘

He said: “Although I have played a role in various coalition politics at different times in the past, at present our organization is Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis and I am not personally involved in any political alliance.” Despite our clear political position, I realize that a part of the people is conspiring for Mamunul Haque to confront the government. This is why Jamaat-Shibir is trying to impose baseless and imaginary accusations on me to implement the political agenda. I strongly condemn this conspiracy.

Mamunul further said, “I hope all unwanted activities will stop.” At the same time, the administration will take appropriate action against Shaykhul Hadith Allama Azizul Haque and Syed Fazlul Karim Pir Sahib Charmonai.
