BNP leaders and activists, led by engineer Ishraq Hossain, have protested against the renaming of Ziaur Rahman High School in Mughaltuli in the Bangshal area of Old Dhaka. Leaders and activists started the procession from the Bangshal crossing on Sunday morning. From there, BNP activists passed the school in the Mogultuli area and began to protest. At this time, agitated workers removed the nameplate of the school. At that time, BNP Deputy Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohail and engineer Ishraq Hossain removed the leaders and activists from there. Later, they held a street demonstration on the Nawabpur road.
At the time, engineer Ishraq Hossain said that his father, the late Sadek Hossain Khoka, the last mayor of the undivided Dhaka, established the school in the name of Ziaur Rahman on March 25, 2006. But for political reasons, the name of the school has recently changed to Mughaltuli High School. He expressed his annoyance at the city corporation’s school’s name change even though there was no demand from the locals or anyone else.
BNP Dhaka Metropolitan South President Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel said that Ziaur Rahman’s name cannot be erased from people’s minds simply by changing his school name. He also commented that the common people of the country would not accept such heinous acts. The BNP leader said that the protest that has started will continue.
