The suicide rate in Japan is not very high but it is not low either. Every now and then, this number increases by leaps and bounds.
A recent surprise report found that 2,087 people had died in Japan’s corona virus epidemic as of Saturday. But more people committed suicide in Japan last October, 2,153! The information was released by the Japan National Police Agency.
Many Japanese are contemplating suicide due to social isolation, long work hours, study stress, and financial uncertainty in Corona.
“We were not issued a blockade like that,” said Michiko Weda of Waseda University in Tokyo. Corona’s influence is less here than in other countries … yet the number of suicides has increased. This suggests that there is a more or less similar suicide risk in other countries.
Japan has the highest suicide rate in the world. Among developed countries, Japan is the only country that regularly publishes suicide rates.
