Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation stone for the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib railway bridge over the Jamuna River on Sunday. After that, the main construction works of the bridge will start from today.

According to BSS, citing an official from the Ministry of Railways, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation stone of the 4.8 km long Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib double-track railway bridge from Ganobhaban (virtually) at 10.30 am today.

According to project details, interested contractors have already started preliminary work on the bridge.

According to Bass, the development of construction work yards and facilities for employer-engineers and contractors is progressing rapidly.

The main bridge will be built in two packages. Two separate agreements have been signed with Japan’s Obayashi-Toya JFE and IHI-SMCC JV for design and infrastructure work in the eastern and western parts, respectively.

Under the agreement, the land was handed over to both contractors in July this year. The new bridge will be able to run at 120 kilometers per hour on the gauge line and 100 kilometers per hour on the gauge line. If the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib railway bridge is built, 6 trains will be able to run. The project is expected to be completed by 2025.

Local contractor workers are now preparing the construction site, fencing off the site and building housing for the workers. A land dispute with the Bangladesh Bridge Authority for the construction of the shipyard has already been resolved.

According to the BSS report, of the approved project spending of Tk 9,834.07 crore, Tk 7,624.32 crore will come from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as project assistance and Tk 2.98.5 crore will come from government funds. from Bangladesh.

This double track double track bridge will be the largest dedicated rail bridge in the country.

The bridge will increase the capacity of the Bangladesh Railway (BR) to handle more trains between the capital and the western part of the country. It will also help reduce delays in train travel.

During her visit to Tokyo on May 25-26, 2014, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and asked Japan to fund the project.

Later, on September 7, 2014, when Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Dhaka, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina raised the issue.
