The locals arrested the imam of a mosque named Mohammad Ali in a disturbing situation with a young woman in Brahmanbaria’s Bancharampur upazila.
He was arrested on Saturday (November 27) morning in the Imam’s room of the Gauchul Azam Jame Mosque in the Ashrafabad area of the Salimabad Upazila Union. Ali is the son of Faizur Rahman from Puran Kadamtali village in upazila.
According to the police and local sources, the locals went to the imam of the mosque to give him the news by microphone of the death of a resident of the town. Unable to find the Imam inside the mosque, he went to the Imam’s room adjacent to the mosque. Imam Mohammad Ali did not open the door even after knocking on it several times.
Later, the locals saw Imam with a young woman in an abusive situation through the window of the room. When the locals were excited by this incident, the imam led the girl through the back door of her room.
Meanwhile, the mosque’s management committee immediately expelled the imam.
After being captured by the locals, Imam Mohammad Ali said that the girl was his acquaintance. They did nothing wrong by keeping the door closed from the outside.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Bancharampur Model Police Station, Salah Uddin Chowdhury, said Imam was released on bail with his older brother.
