The ruling Awami League party has finalized its party candidates in the next 25 municipal elections. The list of candidates was finalized at a meeting of the party’s Local Government Representatives Nominating Board at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Ganobhaban on Saturday afternoon. The meeting was chaired by the president of the Awami League and the chief minister of the nominating board of representatives of the people of the local government, Sheikh Hasina.

The information was released in a press release signed by Awami League office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua on Saturday night. According to the decision of the meeting, the candidates nominated in the municipal elections (first stage) are:

Zakia Khatun in Panchagarh Sadar of the Panchagarh district between 5 townships in the Rangpur Division, Maryland. Kashirul Alam, Khwaja Moin Uddin in Phulbari of Dinajpur, Ahasanul Haque Chowdhury of Badarganj in Rangpur and Kaziul Islam in Kurigram Sadar of Kurigram have received party nominations. Among the four municipalities of Rajshahi division, Rabiul Islam in Puthia of Rajshahi district, Abbas Ali of Katakhali, Monir Akhter Khan of Shahjadpur in Sirajganj, Taru Lodi and Sakhawat Hossain Sakho of Chatmohar in Pabna have been nominated.

Among the 3 municipalities of Khulna division, Al Mashum Murshed in Khoksa of Kushtia, Sanat Kumar Biswas in Dakop Chalna of Khulna district, Riazul Islam Joarddar in Chuadanga Sadar of Chuadanga. Among the 4 municipalities of Barisal division- A, B in Betagi de Barguna. M Golam Kabir, Patuakhali Kuakataya A. Barik Mollah, Gias Uddin Bepari in Wazirpur from Barisal and Lokman Hossain Dakua in Bakerganj have been nominated by Awami League.

Ramzan Ali in Manikganj Sadar of Manikganj, Golam Kabir in Dhamrai of Dhaka and Sreepur Anisur Rahman in Gazipur are among the 3 municipalities of the Dhaka division. Gafargaon in Mymensingh is one of the two municipalities in the Mymensingh division. Iqbal Hossain (Sumon) and Netrokona Madan Abdul Hannan Talukder have been nominated.

Among the three municipalities of Sylhet Division, Dirai Biswajit Roy of Sunamganj, Abul Imam Kamran Chowdhury of Baralekha of Moulvibazar and Masuduzzaman Masuk of Shayestaganj of Habiganj and party candidates of the Chittagong Division have been elected in a municipal election. That is, the Awami League nominated Badiul Alam in Sitakunda of Chittagong district.
