On November 2, the Health Ministry ordered the closure of the Shah Makhdum College of Medicine in Rajshahi for violating the policy of establishing and operating schools. Previously, the institution without the approval of the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) admitted 225 students in various phases. Among admitted students who were unable to complete MBBS, they were instructed to migrate to other private medical colleges at Rajshahi Medical University.

It is known that after announcing the closure, a team from Dhaka is scheduled to visit Rajshahi Shah Makhdum Medical College on Saturday. Upon receiving the news, the students tried to gather there. They came together to get the message across to the research team that students should be transferred to another institution quickly. The attack occurred when the medical school authorities learned of the incident and removed the students from there.
