Section 39 has been installed on the Padma bridge. As a result, 5,650 meters of bridge infrastructure are visible. The entire 41-span Padma Bridge is not yet visible and only two remain to be installed. In other words, the entire Padma Bridge with a length of 6,150 meters will be visible only if the 300-meter-long span is settled. Before Victory Day on December 16, the bridge authorities plan to connect the two pillars (posts) with the other side of the Padma.

Stretch 39 was installed at piers 10 and 11 in the Mawa section of Munshiganj at 12:20 pm on Friday. This section was installed seven days after the installation of section 38. This month a total of four spans have been installed.

Executive Engineer of the Padma Bridge (Main Bridge) Dewan. A. Quader said the Tian-e floating crane from Kumarbhog Construction Yard in Lohajang departed for the designated pillar with span 39 of 150 meters at 9.15am yesterday. The span crane reached the two pillars around 10:30 am after crossing a distance of one and a half kilometers from the construction yard. At 12:20 hours the span was placed on the two pillars with anti-seismic supports. Engineers plan to install span 40 ‘2-E’ at piers 11 and 12 in December and span 41 ‘2-F’ at piers 12 and 13.

Meanwhile, other works are being carried out in addition to the installation of spans. Of these, 1,647 railway slabs and 1,236 road slabs have been placed on the bridge.

Construction of the Padma Bridge began in December 2014. The Padma Bridge became visible on September 30, 2016 with the installation of the first span at Pia 37 and 38. Then 39 spans were placed one by one.

China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a Chinese contractor, is working on the main bridge, and Sino Hydro Corporation, another Chinese company, is working on managing the river. Abdul Momen Limited from Bangladesh has built two roads and connecting infrastructure. The main shape of the 6.15 km long multi-purpose bridge will be two-story. The bridge structure is being built with concrete and steel. The Padma Bridge is scheduled to open next year after its completion.
