CPB leader Lakshmi Chakraborty said: “We feel very clearly that this horrible situation has been created today due to the lack of democracy, the lack of justice and the prevailing attitude of society and the state towards women.”

Highlighting the statistics of violence against women this year, she said: “As of September 25 this year, there have been 975 incidents of rape. After the rape, 43 women were killed and 12 women committed suicide.

“It is not just rape, it is abusing women and children in a multidimensional way and showing the utmost arrogance by spreading it through social networks. According to media reports, only 3 percent of women are being tried for torture and rape, the lack of justice has made the perpetrators more reckless and the victims and their families extremely insecure. “

The government has recently amended the law to establish the death penalty as the maximum punishment for rape.

However, Lakshmi Chakraborty expressed dissatisfaction with the rape trial process, saying: “We believe that making that decision without rendering the 98 percent rape trial ineffective and ensuring the safety of the victim and her family, including the method to prove the crime. It’s just a ploy to make you look. “

“The movement against rape is a political and ideological struggle. If we want to stop rape, we have to change the existing social system,” he said. We have to guarantee a fair and speedy trial for this crime ”.
