Ramna OC police said. Monirul Islam said the incident took place at the Kakrail intersection after prayers on Friday afternoon.

“After the prayers at Baitul Mukarram, a group of Madrasa students marched through Nightingale and took up position on the Kakrail road. When the police asked them to leave, they began to argue. At one point, they started throwing stones at the police ”.

The police then dispersed them and arrested nine people at the scene and took them to the police station, the OC said.

When the madrassa students wanted to know which organization they belonged to, the police officer said that they came with a banner that read “Touhidi Janata.”

However, a Hifazat-e-Islami leader told bdnews24.com, on condition of anonymity, that the students were followers of Mamunul Haque, the deputy general secretary of his organization’s newly formed committee.

“An organization called Muktiyuddha Mancha has recently protested Faizul Karim and Mamunul Haque, burning their effigies. Madrasah students from different places came to Baitul Mukarram today to protest against this.”

However, Mufti Sakhawat Hossain Razi, the leader of the new Hifazat-e-Islami committee in the Dhaka metropolis, said they had no schedule on Friday. He does not know the identities of the arrested madrasa students.

When Mamunul Haque was called to discuss the matter, he hung up without speaking.
