Haryana police failed to arrest farmers even with military tactics

The Haryana Police have not implemented a common tactic used by the military to arrest thousands of farmers heading to Delhi. Trenches were dug at various locations along the border of the BJP-ruled state. In addition to using this technique, heavy trucks and barbed wire barricades are being installed on several border roads. However, after overcoming all these obstacles, the Farmers Go to Delhi program continues. They have already been allowed to enter the capital under police surveillance. This information comes from the report of the Indian broadcaster NDTV.Such trenches are dug in various places along the Haryana border.

The protests have been going on for the last two months in protest of the agriculture law recently introduced in India by the central government ruled by the BJP. The protests intensified in the two agricultural states of Punjab and Haryana. The government decided to hold a meeting with peasant leaders due to the protests, but was unable to reach a solution. Later, some 500 farmers’ organizations together announced the “Let’s go to Delhi” program.

Thousands of farmers from different states left for Delhi on Thursday for the program. On the way, they clashed with the police on the way. If the peasant march continued on Friday morning, clashes broke out again in different places.

However, the trenching tactics of Haryana state, ruled by the BJP, reflected the death toll of farmers trying to prevent them from reaching Delhi. Police also blocked the road with sand trucks and barbed wire.

Farmers have made a similar desperate effort to continue their journey to Delhi. A huge farmers tear advanced Thursday ignoring the gas and water spray. They threw bricks and stones at the police and forced them to retreat. The peasants removed the obstruction with a police vehicle on a bridge, but removed it empty-handed. After two hours of fighting, thousands of farmers evacuated the bridge and continued to cross Haryana.

Later that day, several photos were taken showing the police digging trenches on the roads leading to Delhi for farmers. An official said on Thursday that the plan was to delay protesting Punjab farmers so they could not reach Karnal (a border town in Haryana).

Note that this type of trenching technique is also used in various states during the coronavirus lockdown. At the time, its purpose was to prevent migrant workers from moving from one state to another. Then a video of the excavation of such a trench on the Orissa-Andhra Pradesh border was widely disseminated. Similar measures are being taken in Tamil Nadu.
