Former US National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was pardoned by President Donald Trump. Trump himself confirmed the information in a tweet on Wednesday.

Flynn lied to the FBI during an investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 US presidential election. Trump’s former adviser was convicted in 2016 of lying about having contacts with Russia at the time.

It is known that Flynn had a secret meeting with the Russian ambassador in Washington in December 2016. The incident took place long before Trump assumed the presidency. The secret meeting came to light when an investigation into Russia’s interference in the elections was launched.

Trump fired Flynn just 22 days after taking office. But the Republican leader now says the investigation was politically motivated. Flynn, a former army general and head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, is a good man at heart.

The White House issued a statement Wednesday pardoning Michael Flynn. There, too, the former security adviser has been described as an innocent victim.

The White House said in a statement that Flynn had been targeted by a group of government officials attempting to disrupt the 2016 election.

In a tweet about forgiving a former colleague, Trump said Michael Flynn has been fully pardoned. It is a great honor for me to make this announcement.

Trump also congratulated Flynn and his family on the clemency.

Earlier, Trump announced plans to pardon former US National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden.

Snowden fled to Russia in 2013 after a key file from the US security agency was leaked. It has been under the protection of the Russian government ever since. Snowden leaked information to various media outlets about the NSA’s various national and international surveillance activities.

He has also been charged with espionage in the United States. The US administration has been trying to bring Edward Snowden back to the country for a long time. But last August, President Trump said he was thinking about forgiving her.

The New York Times recently quoted an undercover source as saying that Trump wants to pardon more people in his final days as president.
