Cyclone Nivar hit the shores of Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu in India on Wednesday night. The violence continued on the coast throughout the night.
It was learned that after 8:30 am local time, several areas of Pondicherry are receiving heavy rains due to the cyclone. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, Nivar is now located 60 km north and northwest of Pondicherry on the north coast of Tamil Nadu. Currently, the speed of this storm has decreased to 85-95 km per hour. The maximum speed of the storm can be 105 kilometers per hour. However, in the next 3 hours, it will lose power due to a strong cyclone and turn into a cyclone.
As a precautionary measure, bus services were suspended in six districts of Tamil Nadu, India. About 200,000 people have been evacuated from the coastal areas. Tamil Chief Minister E Palaniswami has appealed to the general public to stay home. Additionally, flights were suspended at Chennai airport for 6 to 12 hours on Wednesday evening. 4,000 locations in the state have been identified as “weak.” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already spoken with the administrations of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
