A Muslim of Algerian descent has been stripped of his citizenship in Australia on charges of involvement in terrorism.

Australian Home Secretary Peter Dutton said on Wednesday (November 25) that Abdul Nasser Benbrica had been stripped of his citizenship after being accused of conspiring to attack a football match in 2005.

“If a person’s terrorist role is a threat to our country, we will take the necessary measures in accordance with the laws of the country to protect Australians,” said Peter Dutton.

Abdel Nasser’s Benibrika was the first person to lose his citizenship while in Australia. Benbrica was charged with three counts of terrorist assault. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison for leading a terrorist group. He is now a prisoner in an Australian court.

Benbrica’s lawyer will appeal against the arrest. He will have 90 days to appeal against being stripped of his citizenship and returned to Algeria.

Under Australian law, citizenship is waived only if someone has proven dual citizenship. He is one of the beneficiaries of dual citizenship, according to the Australian authorities. Because he is also a citizen of Fiji. Fiji, however, denies the accusations.
