Election Commission officials will travel to 40 countries to collect information on expatriates to provide smart NID cards. Rs 100 million has been allocated for this.
Abul Kalam Azad, a member of the Planning Commission, said this after a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) held in the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday.
The ECNEC meeting approved the project ‘Identification system to improve access to services (IDEA) (Phase II) of the Secretariat of the Electoral Commission. The Prime Minister chaired the meeting by joining the video conference from Ganobhaban.
Abul Kalam Azad said that smart NID cards will be provided to expatriates under the IDEA project. As if it were easy to get their services abroad. Election Commission officials will return after gathering information on expatriates. Afterwards, the Embassy of Bangladesh will deliver the smart NID card to your address in the respective country.
He added that under this scheme smart NID cards will be delivered to those over 14 years of age. According to the Electoral Commission’s plan, by 2025, smart NID cards will be issued to more than 168.3 million citizens over 14 years of age. Source: Bangladesh Daily
