PSG beat Leipzig 1-0 at home in Group H on Tuesday night. In the first leg, Germany lost 2-1 to Thomas Tuchel.
PSG have climbed to second place in the group with 6 points after two wins from four games. Three Leipzigs in goal difference with equal points. In the other match, Manchester United lead with 9 points after beating Istanbul Basaksehir 4-1.
Neymar took the lead in the eleventh minute with a successful penalty shot. The League One champions were sanctioned for fouling Anhel Di Maria in the D-box. Neymar came out of the circle of failures to score in the previous five Champions League games.
Leipzig grabbed PSG to return to parity. Marcel Sabitzer’s shot in the twelfth minute, then Upamekano’s head and Yusuf Paulsen’s shot couldn’t find direction.
Killian Mbabane’s shot was deflected off the post after Neymar’s extended pass in the 15th minute. Seven minutes later, Di María wasted another opportunity created by the Brazilian forward. The Argentine forward did not even have a free kick in the 31st minute.
Leipzig was unable to score early in the second half despite putting pressure on PSG. Emil Forsberg from inside the box in the 49th minute and a Sabitzer shot from above the box two minutes later came close to the post.
Neymar-Mbabane could not test the goalkeeper. In the 84th minute, the PSG coach picked up Di María and dropped Rafinia.
In the end, Leipzig failed to return to parity. In the 69th minute, Sabitzer’s shot from outside the D-box missed and the German team did not turn around.
In the 90th minute, Mbabane and Neymar were picked up by Moiz Kin and Pablo Sarabia. Rafinha was unable to duplicate Sarabia’s extended ball advantage in additional time. Sarabia’s shot was later missed by Kin’s pass.
In the last edition of the Champions League, which was shortened due to the coronavirus, PSG reached the final by beating Leipzig 3-0 in the semi-final of a match. But the League One team did not look fit in this match. They can only take two shots in the whole game!
