Child marriage to elder: Superior Court seeks investigation report

The Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner, the Police Superintendent and the Dewanganj Officer in Charge have been asked to report next Sunday.

A bench of FRM Judge Nazmul Ahsan and Judge Shahed Nuruddin approved the order Tuesday after the published news broke.

Deputy Attorney General ABM Al Mahmoud Bashar took notice of the news published in various newspapers.

He later said: “The incident of a 12-year-old boy who marries a 65-year-old man in Jamalpur has appeared in various newspapers. That is what we were seeing.

The court asked the deputy commissioner of Jamalpur, the superintendent of police and the officer in charge of Dewanganj to investigate the incident and submit a report before next Sunday. At the same time, he has asked them to comply with their legal responsibilities ”.

He said: “The 75-year-old man was whipped and forced to marry the child by representatives of the local population and matabbars through arbitration in the village. It is completely illegal.” The court will give the necessary order after seeing the report next Sunday ”.

The 65-year-old was whipped and married to a 12-year-old boy by the Matbars under the headline ‘Daily Samakal’ last Friday.

According to the report, the villagers married a 12-year-old boy to Mohir Uddin, 75, in Boyrapara village of Charamkhawa union in Dewanganj of Jamalpur.

According to the locals, the grandfather of the grandson of the elderly Shahin (18) was blamed for the crime in the village arbitration. In the arbitration, the elderly Mohir was beaten with ten lashes and the boy married him.

Citing locals, the report said the victim was a fifth grader at the local Qawmi madrasa. She fell in love with Shahin, the grandson of Mohir Uddin, an old man from the same town. At one point, the girl became pregnant due to Shaheen’s rape. Later, she had an abortion 10-15 days ago. But when the matter came to light, the local matabars mediated and blamed Mohir Uddin, 75, for the crime of his grandson Shahin.
