Dhaka: The High Court has ordered a report to be filed before Sunday (November 29) after investigating the marriage of an 11-year-old girl who was raped by her 65-year-old grandfather at Dewanganj in Jamalpur.
A High Court bench approved the order on Tuesday (November 24) after bringing the matter to its attention, Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Mahmoud Bashar said.
“We came to know about the marriage of a child,” he added. The court told DC, Jamalpur SP and Dewanganj CO to investigate the incident and submit a report next Sunday.
According to media reports, Shahin, the talented son of Surman Ali from the same area, had a physical relationship with a fifth-grade student from a women’s madrasa in Boyrapara village of Char Amkhawa UP in Jamalpur’s Dewanganj upazila . At one point, the student became pregnant. Later, the girl was aborted due to Kabiraji’s treatment.
When the matter was leaked, local UP members and local matabbars held an arbitration meeting on November 18. In arbitration, rapist Shaheen was flogged with 10 lashes and his 65-year-old grandfather was blamed for his actions. Later, the local Matabbars married the victim, an 11-year-old girl, to Dada Mohir Uddin.
Mohir Uddin, 65, cannot speak properly, his eyes are blurry. He is the father of seven children. Both of his wives died a long time ago. He alleged that some others, including local Char Amkhawa UP member Nadu Member, had arranged the marriage by blaming him.
Joynal Abedin Nadu, a member of Char Amkhawa UP, also admitted the matter and told banglanews that the arbitration was done with the rabbis. Shahin was flogged 10 times for committing immoral acts in arbitration. The girl later married the rapist’s grandfather according to the decision of the locals.
Char Amkhawa UP President Azizur Rahman Akand also confirmed the incident.
Aminul Islam, the police officer in charge of Dewanganj, told banglanews that no one has complained so far. Action will be taken if any complaints are received.
