A huge python has been recovered from the Jamuna Char in Sohagpur in Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj. After rescuing the 10-foot-long python, members of the local volunteer organization The Bird Safety House handed it over to the forest department. The Sadar Upazila Forest Department took the snake into custody on Monday afternoon. The snake has been sent to the Rajshahi Department of Wildlife Conservation for treatment.

Mamun Biswas, president of The Bird Safety House, said locals spotted a python in the middle of the ground at Sohagpur Jamuna Char on Sunday. Upon seeing the huge python, some locals got scared and hit the snake on the head and seriously injured it. Upon learning of the matter, the locals were alerted to the wildlife law on their mobile phones and asked to keep the snake in their custody without killing it.

Later in the morning they went to the scene and rescued the injured snake and took it into their custody at The Bird Safety House. The snake was handed over to the officer in charge of the Sirajganj Social Forest Department around noon. Rishikesh Chandra Roy, officer in charge of the Sirajganj Department of Social Forests, said: “We have taken the snake into our custody. It has a serious head wound.” As the snake became more injured, it was sent to the Rajshahi Department of Wildlife Management and Conservation for proper treatment and care.
