Cyclone ‘Nivar’ hits India

Cyclone Nivar is approaching India. The cyclone is concentrating in the Bay of Bengal and moving towards Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

The Hindustan Times reported on Monday, citing sources from the Indian Meteorological Department.

The cyclone is expected to hit Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu and Karaik in Pondicherry next Wednesday, according to the report. As a result, there is the possibility of heavy rains in these southern Indian coastal states.

According to Anandabazar, the deep depression over the southwest of the Bay of Bengal will turn into a cyclone and move towards the Tamil Nadu-Pondicherry coast in the next 24 hours.

As a result, it will start to rain in the coastal states of southern India from Monday. Heavy rains are expected in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On the southern coast of Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Telangana will receive rain on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The deep depression is 640 km south of Chennai, according to sources from the Tamil Nadu Meteorological Department. Fishermen are prohibited from going to sea next Wednesday.

Six units of the National Disaster Response Force have already been deployed to the Cuddalore and Chidambaram districts of Tamil Nadu.

Pondicherry and Andhra Pradesh have also started preparing for the cyclone.
