Four people, including a pedestrian, were burned in an explosion on Panthapath in the capital. The Titas Gas Authority speculates that the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak.
The incident took place on Sunday afternoon. The injured were rescued and admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burns and Plastic Surgery.
The injured are Abdullah (55), Azim (40), Ruhul Amin (40) and the pedestrian Zafar (30).
Mirza Rabiul Alam, Titas Gas Dhanmondi area technician, confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.
He said: ‘I have received news from the locals that there is a problem with the gas pipe under the ground at the entrance to Panthapath Green Road. Upon receiving the news, it was sent to the repair team. The team members just left and stayed there. The explosion took place at that moment. Three of our members were burned. Abdullah is our staff among them. Azim and Ruhul Amin are day laborers. I learned that a pedestrian was also burned in this incident. His name is Zafar.
Mirza Rabiul Alam further said: “It is not yet known what actually caused the explosion. Investigating whether there is a Titas gas leak or any other reason.
Citing doctors on duty at the ASI Abdul Khan Institute at the Dhaka Medical College police post, he said that two people had been admitted to the incident. One of them has 28% burns and the other 30% burns. The other two have received first aid.
