Dhaka: ‘Facebook.com’ is the main domain of Facebook. However, with the addition of each country’s own name extension, Facebook can be used.
In Bangladesh, you can access Facebook with ‘Facebook.com.bd’. However, in Bangladesh, only on Facebook.com, the original Facebook domain was bought on January 14, 2010 by the Facebook Authority with a patent from the Telecommunications Authority (BTCL).
This time, Facebook authorities are in trouble when they try to seize a domain with the codename ‘Facebook.com.bd’. Because this name was registered in his own name in 2006 by a person called ‘A One Software’ and SK Shamsul Islam. So, Facebook authorities tried to register the name with the country code in Bangladesh, but failed.
In this case, Facebook authorities tried to buy this domain from A One software. However, the price of this domain is US $ 6 million, which is equivalent to approximately Rs 51 million in Bangladeshi currency. That domain has also been advertised for sale.
In such a situation, Facebook authorities were unable to move forward to purchase the domain even after issuing legal notices.
This time around, the company is finally fighting a legal battle to get the ‘Facebook.com.bd’ domain. A case was filed in the Dhaka District Judges Court on Sunday (November 22) on behalf of Facebook.
The domain buyer, A One Software and SK Shamsul Islam have been named as defendants in the case. A court order has also been issued to prevent the transfer of this domain. On December 1, a hearing will be held on the admissibility of the case. Facebook lawyer Mokshedul Islam told reporters this information.
