Life sentence for one in the Imam’s murder case in Kishoreganj

Imam of the Kishoreganj Kuliyarchar mosque. A defendant named Moyna Akhter (22) has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder case of Khokon alias Mizanur Rahman (28). In addition, he was fined two lakh rupees. Another defendant, Monir Hossain, 22, was sentenced to seven years in prison. The fine was 50 lakhs.

Kishoreganj Additional District and Session Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim delivered the verdict on Sunday morning. The defendants were present in court at the time.

According to the details of the case, Nurul Islam’s son from the Boulai Union of Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila used to lead prayers at a mosque in the Usmanpur village of Kuliarchar Upazila in the Khokon district. On the night of August 14, 2016, locals saw a body huddled in a dirt in the Konapara area of ​​Kuliyarchar upazila. An unnumbered motorcycle lay near the body. Upon receiving the news, the police recovered the body and the motorcycle and took it to the police station. The victim’s brother, Nurul Haque, filed a murder case against the unidentified persons at the Kuliyarchar police station. After the investigation, the police arrested Moina Akhter, wife of Nazrul Islam from Konapara village in Kuliyarchar upazila and Monir Hossain, son of Dulu Miah from Manoharpur.

On April 24, 2017, Deputy Inspector (SI) Kohinoor Mia, the investigating officer on the case, filed a charge sheet in court on behalf of Moyna Akhter and Monir Hossain. The case was represented by Assistant Prosecutor (APP) Jagneshwar Roy Chowdhury and the case was handled by Md. Abdul Quddus.
