A court sentenced a woman named Moyna Akhter to life imprisonment in a murder case of the imam of the Mizanur Rahman mosque when he tried to rape her at Kuliyarchar in Kishoreganj.

Moina’s brother, Monir Hossain, has been sentenced to seven years in prison in the same case. The court also imposed a fine of Tk 2 lakh on Moyna and Tk 50,000 on Monir.

Kishoreganj First Additional and Sessions District Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim delivered the verdict on Sunday morning. Two defendants were present in court at the time.

According to the details of the case, Mizanur Rahman, the son of Nurul Islam from the village of Boulai Purba Barati in Kishoreganj Sadar upazila, used to lead prayers at a mosque in the Usmanpur area of ​​Kuliyarchar upazila.

Police recovered the body of Hafez Mizanur Rahman Mizan from the side of the Bajra-Chowmuri paved road in the Usmanpur area of ​​Kuliyarchar upazila on August 14, 2016 at around 3pm.

The next day, the victim’s brother. Nurul Haque became a plaintiff and filed a lawsuit against the unidentified persons at the Kuliyarchar police station. Later, the police arrested Moina Akhter, wife of Nazrul Islam, an expatriate from Konapara village, and her brother Monir Hossain.

SI Kohinoor Mia, the investigating officer on the case, filed a charge sheet in court on April 24, 2016 on their behalf.

According to the charge sheet, Imam Mizanur Rahman Mizan entered the home late at night on the day of the incident and tried to rape the expat’s wife. The autopsy beat him to death with an iron bar and suffocated him. Later, with the help of his brother Monir Hossain, they packed Imam’s body in a sack and left it on the side of the road.

The verdict was announced after a lengthy court hearing. Lawyer Jagneshwar Roy represented the state and lawyer Abdul Quddus conducted the case on behalf of the defendants.
