Dipayan Sarkar (35) fell asleep holding a cigarette. The pillow burns first in the fire of that cigarette. Then the mosquito caught fire. He, his wife and daughter were burned. Dipayan died at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Saturday night while undergoing treatment. His wife Poppy Sarkar (30) and daughter Dia Rani Sarkar (5) are being treated at the hospital.
Three members of the same family were burned in a fire in the Dapa Idrakpur area of Fatulla in Narayanganj last Friday night.
Dipayan Sarkar is the son of Ram Gopal Sarkar from the village of Ichapur in Khaliajuri upazila of Netrokona. He and his family lived in a rented house at Dapa Idrakpur in Fatullah.
Aslam Hossain, officer in charge of the Fatullah Model Police Station, said Dipayan was lying inside the house at midnight Friday when he lit a cigarette. He fell asleep without putting out the cigarette fire. The pillow burned first from that fire. From there, the mosquito caught fire. When the bodies of the three caught fire, they began to scream. At that time, the locals rescued the three burned people and admitted them to the hospital. Dipayan is dead.
