Police arrested a young man named Raphael (30) in Rangunia upazila of Chittagong for setting his wife on fire by pouring gasoline on her without receiving dowry money.
Rangunia police arrested him on Friday afternoon (November 20). Rangunia (OC) Police Officer in Charge Mahbub Milki confirmed the matter to Jago News.
Raphael’s house (30) is in the Sandwip Para area of the Rangunia police station.
OC Mahbub Milky said: ‘Raphael married Yasmin seven years ago. After the marriage, the young man accused of demanding the dowry often tortured his wife. Last Thursday night they had a dowry fight. Raphael poured gasoline on his wife’s body and set her on fire Friday morning. Burned housewife Yasmin is currently undergoing treatment in the burn unit at Chamek Hospital.
Rangunia Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Shamim Anwar said: “Raphael poured gasoline on his wife’s body Friday morning and set her on fire. While setting her body on fire, the helpless Yasmin screamed and pleaded with her husband for a 6-year-old family and a 4-year-old boy so that they would not burn her to death. Although the woman wanted to leave the house to save her life, the accused husband prevented her. At one point, Yasmin was saved from the fire when he ran out of gas.

ASP Shamim Anwar Circle said: “After receiving the news, the police conducted a raid on Friday afternoon and arrested the barbarian Rafael. But Raphael’s behavior after the arrest was even more brutal. He had no fear or resentment even after trying to burn his wife. On the contrary, in the custody of the police station, he pleaded with the police to eat rice and beef in a good mood.
