The operation of the so-called militant hideout at Sherkhali Ukilpara in Shahjadpur of Sirajganj has ended. On Friday (November 20), four suspected militants surrendered in a five-hour operation from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. In addition, a large number of jihadist training books, two foreign pistols, and several were recovered from the house. equipment to make bombs, RAB said.
Following the operation, the RAB held an immediate press conference at 11 am on Friday. Local media staff were informed about this. The press conference was attended by the Additional Director General of RAB Headquarters, Colonel Mostafa Sarwar, and the Legal Affairs and Press Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ashiq Billah.
The suspected militants who surrendered are Kiran alias Shamim (22), Naimul Islam Police Station from Sathia in Pabna District, Atiyar Hossain from Dinajpur District and Aminul Islam from Satkhira District. They are all students from different institutions.
At a press conference, RAB officials said the four young men rented the house of engineer Shamsul Haque Rajar (adjacent to the house of teacher Fazlul Haque) in Sherkhali Ukilpara in Shahjadpur on November 5 as students. Later, militant activities began there. On Thursday night (November 19), the RAB-5 arrested four people, including Amir Mahbub of the new JMB in the area of the Shah Makhdum Police Station in Rajshahi. RAB members raided Shahjadpur based on information from the arrested Amir.
The militants were also reported to have fired some bursts at the RAB when they sensed the RAB’s presence as they surrounded the house at 5.30am on Friday morning. Suspecting a large arsenal of weapons at home, the RAB vigorously prepared for the operation. After being ordered to surrender, four militants surrendered to Radhyaab after 10:30 am.
Several teams, including the Bomb Disposal Unit at RAB headquarters, participated in the operation.
