Education Minister Dipu Moni proposed on Thursday to pass the ‘Bangladesh Madrasah Board of Education Bill 2020’ in Parliament. It was subsequently approved by voice vote.

Earlier, President Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury got rid of the public opinion polls given to Opposition members, sent them to the selection committee, and amended the proposals.

After the bill was introduced in Parliament on November 8, it was sent to the Standing Parliamentary Committee of the Ministry of Education for review and report to Parliament.

Until then, the Madrasa Board of Education functioned according to the 1989 ordinance. According to the instructions of the High Court, there is an obligation to modify the laws or ordinances promulgated during the military government and amend them to Bengal.

Under the new law, the retirement age for officers and employees of the Madrasa Board of Education will be 60, as are other boards of education. The government believes that this law will play an effective role in the modernization, development and research of madrassa education.

The word “board” mentioned in the existing ordinance has been replaced by “board” in the bill. The number of council members has increased from 13 to 15.

The existing ordinance did not have any secretary member of the board. The Registrar is included in the Bill as a Member Secretary.

Regarding the purpose and reasons of the bill, the Minister of Education said: “For the progress of all education, research and training and extension activities at the Ebtedayi, Dakhil and Alim levels and to achieve economic growth through the creation of new entrepreneurs and expansion of employment at home and abroad among certified Islamic students obtained from this board. It is very urgent and reasonable to pass the bill repealing the existing ordinance to transform the country into a developed and prosperous country by 2041 ”.
