An NGO official named Helal Uddin was called and brought to Chittagong from Dhaka to sell wild animals. He was later arrested in Bhujpur in Fatikchhari and demanded a ransom of Tk 3 lakh. But the kidnappers killed Helal because they couldn’t pay. Later, the body was buried on top of a hill in the Nurpur area of Bhujpur.
Helal’s body was recovered by the Police Investigation Office (PBI) on Thursday night, a year after the incident. Helal was the manager of an NGO called Setubandhan in the Mugda area of Dhaka.
According to PBI sources, Helal Uddin was brought to Chittagong from Dhaka on November 16, 2019 for selling Takshak. Later, the kidnappers took him to the Chikon Chhara area of the Bhujpur Police Station in Fatikchhari upazila. He was arrested and three lakhs of rupees were demanded from his wife Kaniz Fatima as ransom. But when it was reported that it was not possible to pay that much money, the kidnappers arrested Helal. Kaniz filed a kidnapping case at the Bhujpur Police Station. But the police could do nothing in the investigation. The case was subsequently handed over to PBI in February.
