A letter was sent from Dhaka Central Jail to the Director (Hospital) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on November 9 to return GK Shamim. The letter said that currently, every day 200 prison guards and main jailers must be appointed for better treatment in different prisons in the country, including inmates of the central prison. As a result, the prison administration is struggling to ensure the overall safety of some 10,297 inmates and 20 to 25 inmates in different hospitals. Apart from this, the Interior Ministry has given instructions to take the prisoners back to jail at the end of the rapid treatment, including supervision of the treatment in the outer hospital. The letter requested that GK Shamim be returned immediately.
Before his arrest, GK Shamim used to present himself as the cooperative secretary of the Juba League and sometimes as the vice president of the Awami League of Narayanganj district. He was pacing back and forth with seven armed bodyguards. Most of the great work of the Department of Public Works was in the hands of his organization. He was arrested in a raid on his office in Niketan on September 20 last year.
According to hospital sources, GK Shamim was in the hospital talking about various illnesses such as “pressure”, “diabetes” and chest pain. Five guards and four policemen were in charge of his security at the hospital.
