The Minister of Education said the importance of continuing education activities in an alternative way to the epidemic. Dipu Moni said the government is not thinking of opening educational institutions at this time.
The Education Minister said this while exchanging views with UN representatives last night. Mia Seppo, UN Resident Coordinator, and Tomo Hozumi, UNICEF Representative in Bangladesh, were present at the meeting at the official residence of the Minister of Education on Hare Road.
Mia Seppo wants to know the attitude of the government towards the opening of educational institutions. The education minister told him that in a densely populated country like Bangladesh, it is very difficult to maintain physical distance. Parents also have to go to educational institutions with their children. In that case, the infection can increase. Although children are at lower risk for covidosis, they can be silent carriers.
The Minister of Education added that faced with this situation, many parents do not want to send their children to school. Therefore, the government is emphasizing continuing education activities in an alternative way.
The Minister of Education told the representatives of the two international organizations that the epidemic has created several risks in our education sector. Some students are in danger of dropping out of school due to the closure of educational institutions for a long time. Child marriage and child labor can increase. Our children are suffering from various psychological problems due to the closure of educational institutions for a long time.
