Indian Congress leaders in Furfura court to ‘stop YC’

Two senior leaders of the state Congress have appeared in Furfura court before the Indian Assembly elections.

The president of the Provincial Congress, Adhir Chowdhury, is sitting in a meeting with Furfura Peerzada Taha Siddiqui of Hughli on Tuesday afternoon. Abdul Mannan, leader of the opposition in the State Legislative Assembly, was also asked to accompany him to the meeting. The flurry of the top two leaders of the state Congress before the Assembly elections is certainly “significant.”

Meanwhile, Congress is scheduled to hold a meeting with the left on the same day in Vidhan Bhaban, the seat of the provincial Congress. Preliminary discussions of the Congress-Left alliance will begin from that meeting. Mannan is also expected to be present at that meeting. A few more leaders from the Provincial Congress are expected to remain.

According to Congressional sources, the congressional leader wanted to get a preliminary idea about the Muslim vote in the state by speaking with Tahar earlier.

Why is Congressional support declining in Muslim society?

Recently, it has been speculated that a section of Muslims in India has distanced itself from Congress for not speaking on behalf of Muslims on the Babri Masjid issue. Because of this, it is reported that Asaduddin Waisi’s ‘Mim’ is going to run candidates in Malda-Murshidabad and in different districts of North Bengal. There has also been some concern in Congress about this.

But before that, historically, Muslims have been with Congress in West Bengal, as well as across the country. But in a series of polls, the Trinamool Congress has split the vote. At the same time, the Muslim vote bank fears that the YC will split even more this time. Which is of additional concern to Congress ahead of the Assembly vote.

Panic in Congress over the rise of the YC

The BBC reports that the Hyderabad-based Indian political party AIMIM has expressed concern in the field of Congress after its unexpected success in the Bihar elections. Congressional leaders have said outright that the BJP alliance was able to return to power in Bihar when the YC party won the Muslim vote.

Asaduddin Owaisi, however, told the media that Indian Muslims were choosing him in various states because they saw him as the “appropriate response” from the BJP.

He also clarified that after Maharashtra and Bihar, his next target is West Bengal.

That is why the popularity of YC is increasing.

According to a BBC report, a large part of the Indian Muslim community is beginning to see him as the new leader of Muslims in the country, from opposition to the annulment of three divorces to the question of the demolition of the Babri Masjid or the how YC has ruled on the citizenship law.

In fact, the influence of the 93-year-old political party, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, was limited to the city limits of Hyderabad just a few years ago.

After the rise of the BJP in the state, the Muslim vote is expected to move closer to non-BJP forces. But congressional leaders see no guarantee that the vote will land in the congressional box. That is why there has been an increase in the number of Muslim votes in Congress. That is why Furfura’s visit by the leaders of the Congress is news from the sources of the provincial Congress.

Congress is also concerned about Abbas Siddiqui

According to Anandabazar, congressional leaders are also concerned about Abbas Siddiqui, nephew of Furfura Peerzada Tahar. It has already started trying to influence the two contiguous districts of Kolkata, the north and the south of 24 Parganas and Howrah. Muslim leaders in Congress are a bit concerned about that too. Abbas may also be talking about two top Congressional leaders with Taha. However, history says that the leaders of all the parties are in regular contact with Taha. After meeting with the top two leaders of Congress, the leaders of other parties will definitely meet with him in the near future.
