Abdullah Al Mamun, Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Barisal Sadar Naval Police Station, said they went to the scene and recovered the body based on information provided by the launch authorities. Later, the body was sent for autopsy.
Although initially the identity of the murdered youth could not be determined, the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) revealed his identity. Although he was beaten to death on the roof of the boat, the CID has not yet said why or who killed him.
CID inspector Nurul Alam Talukder said the matter was under investigation. An identification card was found in Shamim’s purse. The card belonged to Shamim’s friend and colleague, Ripon. He is currently in Fatullah, Narayanganj. Speaking to Ripon on her mobile phone, Shamim said that Shamim had taken her bag to go home to the village yesterday. He had his ID card in the bag. The identity of the deceased Shamim can be known from the source of that identification card.
Launch inspector Sirajul Islam said passengers were not allowed on the roof. For this, the roof door is also kept closed. But it was not known how the young man got to the roof.
Barisal River Port Officer Mostafizur Rahman said CCTV footage would be used to unravel the murder mystery.
