Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her regret at the death of Col (retd) Shawkat Ali, a former vice president, a heroic freedom fighter and one of the defendants in the Agartala conspiracy case.
Sheikh Hasina said: “The country lost a veteran public leader, I lost a loyal colleague of the Bangabandhu ideology.”
He said this in a message of condolence on the death of Colonel (retired) Shawkat Ali, a heroic freedom fighter.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the nation will always remember the contribution of the former Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, Shawkat Ali, in the fight for the country’s freedom, the great liberation war and the strengthening of parliamentary democracy.
Sheikh Hasina remembers with great respect the historical incidents in which Shawkat Ali became the 26th defendant in the state conspiracy case against Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Agartala by the then ruling class of West Pakistan in 1969 and his imprisonment with father of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib nation.
The Prime Minister prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased’s soul and conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved relatives.
Shawkat Ali died at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital around 9:30 am on Monday while on life support.
