Online tax filing was launched in a tax region this year. Starting next year, all fiscal regions will be subject to it, said the chairman of the National Revenue Board (NBR) Abu Hena. Rahmatul Munim.
He spoke at the inaugural online income tax filing function in the capital’s tax zone 6 on Sunday.
The president of NBR said: “The main obstacle to increasing the tax network is the fear of the taxpayers. They are not comfortable, but there is a dilemma between them: paying taxes, giving refunds seems to be a problem. But paying taxes or refunds is not a problem, it can only be guaranteed through radical reforms. One of the methods is automation. If the taxpayer can easily calculate his tax at home, if he can pay the tax due, then if there is any refund of the tax paid at source, he can also obtain it through the account at home. So it appears that taxpayers will have no objection to filing taxes or returns.
He added: “In my opinion, it is not very difficult for a wealthy person to pay the required amount of income tax. However, it is difficult for him to pay in this payment method. But in this place we are trying to simplify. As part of That’s why we are moving towards automation by filing returns. We are working to ensure that taxpayers can file returns with certainty. What we inaugurate today is not a great achievement, it is a small effort. At least with that we enter the platform statement submission system. We will improve it and implement it in other areas based on it.
Rahmatul Munim said: ‘Actually, we are a bit behind this year. We could have introduced this method in other areas if we had done it earlier. But next year we are determined to file returns online. Next year, everyone in all tax regions will have the opportunity to file online returns. All taxpayers in Zone 6 receive this benefit this year. It will be rolled out in all areas next year.
Dhaka Commissioner Mohammad Zahid Hasan, Commissioner of Tax Zone 6, said: “I have 1 lakh 35 thousand taxpayers in Tax Zone.” Of these, 60,000 are bank officials. They will be able to send their returns online from now on. However, we are still working on the update. We still have work to do. They are being updated. But we are hopeful that everyone in our tax region will reap this benefit.
