Mufti Waqqas at the press conferenceThe newly formed Hefazat-e-Islam committee was established at the behest of a special tribunal, allegedly Mufti Mohammad Waqqas, the Nayeb Amir of the newly dissolved committee and the chief adviser to the Dhaka Metropolitan Hefazat.
He made the accusation while speaking to reporters at Askan Tower, adjacent to the Dholaipar bus stop south of the capital, on Sunday evening (November 15). Mufti Waqqas has been appointed advisor to the new Hefazat committee at Darul Uloom Moinul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari, Chittagong. However, Maulana Anas Madani, son of Allama Ahmad Shafi, Mufti Faizullah, Mufti Moinuddin Ruhi and many others have been left out.
Former Member of Parliament Mufti Muhammad Waqqas said: “Allama Ahmad Shafi, the Emir of Hifazat-e-Islam, has passed away. That is why it was necessary to take his place. But the committee that was reconstituted in Hathazari today was not on the subject. It would have been better if only one Amir had been appointed instead of Amir.
Waqqas complained: ‘I am the Nayeb Amir Central, the senior adviser to the Dhaka Metropolitan Committee. There was no discussion with me at first, not even until the conference, not even a letter was delivered. Therefore, many scholars have been left out.
He said: “It appears that this is a deliberate move to destroy the universality of Hefazat-e-Islam, at the behest of a special court to undermine its universality. These have been made at the behest of someone.
Mufti Waqqas, the leader of the 20-party alliance, added: “I doubt that those who do not want the ulama to be together in this country, to speak the Quran, have done so.”
