He said the government is now working on a plan to harness the immense potential of the sea for the development of the country’s economy.

The prime minister addressed a video conference from Ganobhaban on Sunday morning at the commissioning ceremony of two offshore patrol vessels (OPV), five coastal patrol vessels (IPV), two fast patrol boats (FPV) and BCG Bhola Base of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

Sheikh Hasina instructed members of the Coast Guard to discharge their duties with honesty and integrity out of patriotism to maintain their reputation.

Noting that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman enacted a law in 1974 to guarantee Bangladesh’s rights at sea, he said that those who came to power illegally in violation of the constitution after killing the father of the nation never spoke about the rights of the country and their people.

“If we talk about the government of Ziaur Rahman, the government of Ershad or the government of Khaleda Zia … whoever we are talking about … they have never mentioned the rights we have on the maritime boundary.”

When the Awami League government came to power in 1996 and worked to secure the right to maritime borders, Sheikh Hasina later said that Bangladesh gained huge maritime borders. Perhaps if the Awami League were not in power, the rights we have in these seas would never have been established. “

The prime minister said that the government has already adopted a plan on how to use marine resources.

“We are trying to use the resources of the sea for the development of the country’s economy,” he said. Many companies in the world operate from here. That is why our right here is very important.

Furthermore, the safety of those who live in our coastal areas and their economic development is also very important to us. It is because they are neglected all the time. That is why we want to use this marine resource for economic development ”.

Stating that the government is working to make the Coast Guard modern and up-to-date, the Prime Minister mentioned several measures taken by the government to develop the force.

Prime Minister Ahmed Kaikaus’ Chief Secretary, Prime Minister Ihsanul Karim’s Press Secretary and Force Director General Rear Admiral M Ashraful Haque were present at the end of the Coast Guard pier in Paienen in Chittagong.
