A teenage garment worker was gang-raped on Friday night while visiting the home of her colleague’s girlfriend in Narayanganj, Dhaka. A young man named Sohail Mia, 40, and the victim’s girlfriend were arrested Saturday night in the case.
Sohail Mia’s house is in the adjoining Palashbari upazila. The house of the arrested girl is in Gobindaganj upazila.
According to the police, the teenager, together with her husband, worked in a garment factory in a rented house in Narayanganj. The girl was raped while working in a clothing factory in the same house. Being in the same house leads to friendship between the two teenagers. On October 26, the two went to visit Gaibandha.
On Friday morning, Sohail took the girl on a motorcycle. At night, four or five people, including Sohail, raped the girl. Around one o’clock in the evening, locals heard about the girl’s incident and reported it to the police. The police rescued him and took him to the police station. Police arrested Sohail and the teenager’s girlfriend on Saturday night.
In this regard, the Inspector (Investigation) of the Gobindaganj Police Station, Afzal Hossain, said that after the rescue of the victim, his health examination was completed at Gaibandha General Hospital. On Friday night, the teenager herself filed a case against five people, including Sohail Mia. Two people were arrested on Saturday night. Attempts are being made to arrest the other defendants.
