Awami League president Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the full 201-member Juba League committee on Saturday, with Nixon Chowdhury ranked No. 7 in the 26-member presidium.

In Faridpur-4 constituency, which comprises Bhanga, Sadarpur and Charbhadrasan upazilas, Nixon Chowdhury has been conducting electoral and organizational activities against Kazi Zafar Ullah, a member of the Awami League presidium.

The Bangabandhu area has always been the stronghold of the Awami League in greater Faridpur; The Awami League candidates have always won in the Faridpur-4 constituency. Zafar Ullah could not be elected in 2008 to this seat due to the exclusive dominance of the Awami League and his wife Nilufar Zafar was elected as a member of Parliament as a candidate for the Awami League.

Then came Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon (Nixon Chowdhury). He is the grandson of Bangabandhu’s older sister, Fatema Begum. Nixon’s father, Ilyas Ahmed Chowdhury, was a Member of Parliament for Shibchar in Madaripur. His brother Noor Alam Chowdhury (Liton Chowdhury) is now the deputy of that constituency, he serves as Head of Whip in the National Assembly.

Nixon Chowdhury was elected Member of Parliament after defeating Awami League candidate Kazi Zafar Ullah in the 2014 elections outside of BNP. The same thing happened again in the XI Parliamentary Elections of 2016.

On several occasions, Nixon Chowdhury attended the discussion with the main leader of the Awami League Kazi Zafar Ullah.

Recently, Nixon was accused of threatening the deputy commissioner and election officials in connection with the by-elections for the post of president of Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad in Faridpur.

On the morning of the October 10 elections, he telephoned the UN in Charbhadrasan and threatened to call another executive magistrate “little pig.” When the audio of their phone conversation was released on Facebook, the criticism began.

Apart from this incident, a case has been brought against Nixon Chowdhury on various charges, including “indecent behavior” and the threat to call the Faridpur Deputy Commissioner for Elections. Nixon Chowdhury has obtained advance bond from Superior Court in that case.

Fazle Sams Parash, president of the Juba League, and Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, general secretary of the Juba League, did not respond to repeated calls.

However, Nixon Chowdhury thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Juba League President Parash for securing a place on the Juba League committee.

He told bdnews24.com: “I thank Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, organizational leader of the Juba League, and Sheikh Fazle Sams Parash, president of the Juba League, for including me in the Juba League.”

“I will faithfully fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to me. We will work to erase the notoriety of the past in the Juba League and restore the image of the Juba League throughout the country.
