Speaking as the keynote guest at a discussion meeting held at Gol Pahar Kali Mandir in the port city on the occasion of Shyama Puja on Saturday night, he expressed outrage at the recent activities of the “fundamentalist group”.
Chittagong-9 MP Nawfel said: “This is a handful of fundamentalist groups, we will not bow down to them. What we saw a couple of days ago. A leader of a very small fundamentalist group was standing on the stage and shaking the stage. They spoke of the Father of the Bangabandhu Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“The stage shakes, creates fear, I want to say to those who speak out loud: don’t shake the stage too much. If the stage becomes more shaken, the ground underfoot will also soften. Stop your threats. “
He said: “The people of Bangladesh respect democracy. You are in democratic politics. Yes, even fundamentalist groups sometimes have the right to participate in politics in a democratic environment. But we want to say to those who will show the audacity to speak of fundamentalism, to create fear in the minds of the people and to speak of the national institution, the father of the nation: you stop the excesses.
“Shaking the field, shaking the stage, overdoing it will remove the dirt from under your feet. To this radical group we want to say, be careful. Exaggerated. We are listening to your excesses ”.
Deputy Minister of Education Nawfel said: “Nobody is above the government. This Awami League from Bangladesh also knows how to make friends by keeping their hands on their necks. So don’t think he has shown tolerance by making friends with his hands on his neck, that’s weakness.
“There will be violence in the country, it will destroy the environment of law and order, it will destroy community harmony, we don’t give a damn. So be careful, be careful to take time. This is not the place of fundamentalism in Bangladesh.”
Nawfel said: “Legally the political parties have done it, they talk about politicians. No one was given a contract to defend Islam in religion. Allah Almighty has given everyone the responsibility. I would like to say for the last time what you have said on behalf of the father of the nation shaking the stage, what you are saying to destroy the communal harmony of the country, do not believe that tolerant behavior, democratic behavior is a weakness. Our energy is much deeper in the ground. This constitution of Bangladesh has made us strong.
“We will not tolerate talking in this Bangladesh. Wherever you are, be careful to apologize as much as you say. Otherwise, he will give up soon.
He said: “Honorable Prime Minister is committed to ensuring security in all religious institutions under the government and on behalf of the party, whether we are in government or not. This Chittagong story is a non-community story.
“The top leaders of the Bangladesh Awami League have always supported people of all faiths, including my father. There have been attempts to provoke communal disturbances in the past, but we have resisted ”.
Regarding the recent situation, Nawfel said: “There is no reason for the crisis. A few days ago we heard a lot today about some conspiratorial groups, which create an atmosphere of misunderstanding and apprehension among our communities. Everyone has heard it, the compatriots have heard it. We have protested against this.
“A few days ago, the leaders of the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, starting with the leaders of the traditional religion, also protested. In this Bangladesh, just as we will not tolerate hurting religious feelings, harassment of people in the name of hurting religious feelings and taking action against them will not be tolerated. There is a court, there is a government. We urge those who are trying to create an atmosphere of fear and apprehension in all of our communities by spreading social rumors without going through that process to be careful. “
Nawfel said: “Islam is safe in the religion of the common people of Bangladesh, including the Awami League of Bangladesh. Neither of you received the contract. The people of this Bangladesh are not communal.
“Hindus from Bengal, Muslims from Bengal, Buddhists from Bengal, Christians from Bengal will advance towards prosperity in a peaceful environment in secular Bangladesh. Under the skillful leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter, Sheikh Hasina.
He said: “In this Bangladesh, starting from the traditional religion, not everyone is a peaceful coexistence, only everyone will celebrate the festival according to their religious customs. We will all respect it and participate in it as much as we can. There is nothing to worship with participation.
“We have nothing to fear. Because Bangabandhu’s daughter, Sheikh Hasina, is at the helm. As long as this Bangladesh remains in the hands of Sheikh Hasina, there is no reason to fear. Bangladesh will advance. In this Bangladesh, there will be Eid Miladunnabi, Eid- ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha, Durga Puja, Shyama Puja, Saraswati Puja. There will be all the Bengali festivals. It will be without hesitation and without fear. “
The Assistant High Commissioner of India in Chittagong Anindya Banerjee was present as the keynote speaker.
The meeting was chaired by Michael Desh, Chairman of the Gol Pahar Mahasmashan Management Committee. Swami Lahmi Narayan Kripananda Puri Maharaj, former councilor Gias Uddin, Professor Swadesh Chakraborty, Kajal Kanti Dev committee general secretary and others spoke.
