Dhaka: so far there have been eight cases in four police stations for setting 10 buses on fire in the capital. The police have arrested 16 people in these cases.
On Friday (November 13), the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media and Public Relations. Walid Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
He said eight cases have so far been filed at Motijheel, Paltan, Shahbagh and Bangshal police stations. 18 people have been arrested in these cases. The police are working on the ground to arrest the rest of the accused. So far, one defendant has been arrested at Motijheel Police Station, four at Shahbagh Police Station and 10 at Paltan Police Station.
A total of 260 people have been charged in eight cases at four police stations for the bus fire, police said.
The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Paltan Police Station, Abu Bakar Siddiqui, told banglanews that 58 people have been charged in two cases filed at the Paltan Police Station. 10 of them have been arrested.
Bangshal OC Police said. Shaheen Fakir told banglanews that a case has been filed in connection with the bus fire. 56 people have been charged in this case.
Shahbagh OC Mohammad Mamun Aur Rashid Police Station said 64 people have been charged in the two cases. Four of them have been arrested.
Earlier on Thursday (November 12), 10 buses were set on fire at nine locations in the capital, including Shahbagh, Press Club, Gulistan, Motijheel, Nayabazar, Bhatara and Shahjahanpur. However, no casualties were reported.
According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Crime Command and Control Center, a fire broke out in 15 government vehicles parked in the tax area on the north side of the BNP party office below the Paltan police station at 12 : 05 pm on Thursday (November 12). Then at 1pm on the Agrani Bank staff bus in front of the Madhumita Cinema Hall below the Motijheel Police Station, at 1:25 am at the current Victor Classic Paribahan in front of the Ramna Hotel, at 1:30 pm in front of the Aziz Super Market in Shahbag in Dewan Paribahan, at 2:10 am on the north side of the Bangladesh Secretariat Dishari transport caught fire at 2.25 pm. Also, Jainpuri Paribahan in the parking lot under Paltan Police Station at 2.45pm, BRTC double-decker bus at Pubali Petrol Pump under Motijheel Police Station at 3pm, Victor Classic Paribahan at Coca-Cola Junction below the Bhatara and Azampur police station in Uttara at night.
Law enforcement agencies suspect that an opposition party has set buses on fire in different parts of the capital at the same time in an attempt to sabotage the Dhaka-17 parliamentary parliamentary elections. It is being investigated whether the incidents of cocktail explosions in two places in the constituency and the incidents of setting fire to public transport in different places in the capital during the vote are the same.
