BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the government wanted to humiliate BNP and harass its leaders and activists by imposing its responsibility. This egregious arson incident in different parts of the capital is planned in advance and is intentional.

He made the remarks in a statement sent to the media on Thursday.

Mirza Fakhrul said that ruling party cadres set public transport on fire in different parts of Dhaka to divert people’s attention in the by-elections of the Dhaka-17 and Sirajganj-1 constituencies. Through these misdeeds, the government wants to humiliate BNP as before and harass BNP leaders and activists by presenting false and absent cases, imposing their responsibilities on them conspiratorially.

He said the BNP was never involved in such incidents. The BNP is not involved in the politics of conspiracy and terrorism, but in the power of the people. Mirza Fakhrul urged the people not to be fooled by the nefarious conspiracies and lies of the government and to return to a transparent policy avoiding the path of this nefarious policy.

In a statement, BNP Central Co-Organizing Secretary Khandaker Mashukur Rahman demanded the unconditional release of 12 arrested leaders and activists, including Mashuk, and called for the normalization of the situation in the interests of political activities at BNP headquarters.
