Tithi Sarkar, a student temporarily expelled from Jagannath University (JU), was not missing. He voluntarily organized arrests or kidnappings since he was in hiding. His idea was that by secretly imposing responsibility for his abduction on others, he would free himself from the trauma of religious sentiment and divert the flow of events.
The Police Department of Criminal Investigation (CID) said this at a press conference at its headquarters in Malibagh on Thursday.
The CID arrested Tithi Sarkar of Narsingdi around 4:15 pm on Wednesday. Her husband Shiplu Mallick was arrested in Gulistan in the capital at around 12:15 pm on the same day.
The court sent Tithi Sarkar for a day in a case of insulting religious sentiments and the Digital Security Law. In the same case, the court ordered to send her husband Shiplu Mallick to jail. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaur Rahman issued the order today.
The court’s general registration officer (GRO), Mohammad Shah-Alam, confirmed the information to NTV Online. He said that in the case filed at the Paltan police station in the capital, the investigating officer requested pretrial detention for three days after submitting the arrest date of Sarkar and her husband Shiplu Mallick at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Court. After the hearing, the judge ordered Tithi Sarkar to leave her in custody for one day and send her husband to jail.
Jamil Ahmed, deputy inspector general (DIG) of the CID cyber police center, told a press conference that the accused student had shared religiously provocative posts, comments and information on several occasions using her personal Facebook ID. He said: ‘So far, three people, including the student, have been arrested in this incident. One of them is in jail accused of spreading rumors. Separate cases will also be filed against you.

According to the case file, on October 31, the CID’s cyber monitoring team noted that a false post titled ‘Tithi Sarkar, student at Jagannath University, rescued from the fourth floor of the CID office, was shared on social media. in Malibagh with bound hands and feet. ‘ The news quickly went viral on various IDs and Facebook pages. In fact, no such incident occurred within the CID.
It also emerged that the cyber police and the CID have begun taking legal action against rumor mongers. The Cyber Police Center then identified and arrested Niranjan Baral (50), one of the rumor mongers from the Banasree area of Rampura on November 2. A case was filed against Niranjan Baral and several other unidentified persons under the Digital Security Law at the Paltan Police Station.
According to the statement, Tithi Sarkar, a 2017-18 academic year student from the Department of Zoology at Jagannath University, used his Facebook ID to share various provocative posts, comments and information at different times, as a result of which ordinary students from Jagannath University protested against it. On October 23, he filed a General Journal (GD) at the Pallabi Police Station alleging that his Facebook ID had been hacked on the advice of some leaders and activists in his organization to avoid future dangers and stay safe. However, the authorities at Jagannath University temporarily expelled Tithi Sarkar from the university on October 26 after discovering the truth of the incident. He was also expelled from the post of secretary of the office of the Jagannath University branch of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council.
The CID said today on its verified Facebook page that on October 28, Tithi Sarkar’s older sister, Smriti Rani Sarkar, filed a GD at the Pallabi Police Station regarding the disappearance of Tithi Sarkar. He mentioned in the GD that Tithi Sarkar disappeared after leaving his home in Pallabi in Mirpur after 9am on October 25.
After that, the police called for an investigation. While investigating the cyber police center, they received the news that Tithi Sarkar is voluntarily staging a secret arrest / kidnapping drama. He believed that by secretly imposing responsibility for the kidnapping on others, he would get rid of the incident of hurting religious sentiments and divert the flow of events.
Later, a special cyber police team launched a search operation to find out the whereabouts of Tithi Sarkar, who was in hiding. According to the latest technology and secret sources, Tithi Sarkar was arrested in the Dakshin Shilmandhi Panchdona area below the Madhabadi police station in Narsingdi around 4:15 pm on Wednesday.
During questioning, Tithi Sarkar said that after leaving Pallabi’s home in Mirpur on October 25, she contacted her boyfriend Shiplu Mallick and went to Bagerhat. There he married Shiplu Mallick and settled in Bagerhat and arrived in Dhaka on November 9. Later, while staying at the home of Shiplu Mallick’s uncle Debashish Roy in Narsingdi, two teams from the CID Cyber Police Center confirmed the location and arrested Tithi Sarkar from there yesterday. Earlier, Shiplu Mallick was arrested at the electronic market at Kaptan Bazar in Dhaka’s Gulistan around 12:15 pm.
According to the CID, the Niranjan Baral Tithi government’s false and misleading Facebook status has hurt religious sentiments and destroyed community harmony.

The Cyber Police Center urges the general public not to believe any type of information and news without proper verification. If there is any rumor of this type, information about the crime is requested.
