The Awami League engineer candidate Tanvir Shakil Joy won the by-elections in the Sirajganj-1 constituency by a large margin. He got 1 lakh 8,325 votes. His closest rival, Selim Reza of BNP, got just 48 votes.
Voting took place at EVM (electronic voting machine) in that constituency on Thursday. The total number of voters in this constituency is 3 lakh 45,603 people. Voters exercised their right to vote in 18 centers.

This seat is known as the Vote Bank of the Awami League. In all elections since the 1954 United Front election, Captain M. Mansur Ali and his relatives have been elected. In this election, ship candidate Shahid Captain M. Engineer Tanvir Shakil Joy, Mansur Ali’s granddaughter and son of former Minister Mohammad Nasim, won by a large margin.
On June 13, the Jatiya Sangsad declared the post vacant following the death of former member of the Awami League presidium and health minister, Mohammad Nasim.
