After being missing for 16 days, they finally arrested Tithi Sarkar, a student expelled from Jagannath University for insulting religion.

CID ASP (Media) Jisanul Haque confirmed to Jugantar that he was detained on Wednesday night.

The CID claim that Tithi has been missing for so long, Tithi voluntarily went into hiding to avoid arrest and staged the kidnapping drama.

Jamil Ahmed, DIG, Cyber Police Center, said this at a press conference at the CID office on Thursday.

DIG Jamil Ahmed said that on October 25, he left Pallabi’s home in Mirpur and went to Bagerhat to marry Tithi’s lover, Shiplu Mallick. They then returned to Dhaka on November 9. Later he hid in a house in Narsingdi. Tithi Sarkar staged the abduction drama in secret. His idea was that by hiding in this way and imposing responsibility for the kidnapping on others, he would free himself from the incident of hurting religious sentiments or divert the incident.

A publication spread on social networks at the end of last October. Tithi Sarkar is said to have been “rescued with bound hands and feet” from the fourth floor of the CID office in Malibagh.

DIG Jamil Ahmed said that the post was false and that no such incident had occurred at the CID.

“It’s a rumor,” he said. Meanwhile, a rumor monger named Niranjan Baral has been arrested in the Banasree area of Rampura. A case has been filed against Niranjan and some other unidentified persons under the Digital Security Act at the Paltan Police Station on November 2.

On various occasions, from October 16 to October 23, Tithi’s Facebook page was given status by insulting the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

On November 5, a man named Abu Musa Rifat filed a case against the Tithi government under the Digital Security Law in the court of the Dhaka Cyber Court judge Assam Jaglul Hossain.

Tithi has since disappeared.

It was alleged in the case that Tithi Sarkar, a student in the Department of Zoology at Jagannath University for the 2017-18 academic year, had hurt and insulted religious sentiments from her Facebook page at different times from 16 to 23 October.

The complaint further states that Tithi has already been suspended from her organization Student Rights Council for hurting religious sentiments. Tithi Sarkar was also expelled from the university by an order signed by the Jagannath University Registrar on October 26 for the same charge.
