Unable to mourn the death of his father, Sheikh Russell, a 22-year-old college student, committed suicide by hanging himself a few hours later.
The incident took place in the Bishkakuni union’s Dhobaruhi village in Netrokona’s Purbadhala upazila on Wednesday night (November 11).
According to locals and police sources, Sheikh Russell’s father, Hafez Maulana Abdul Bari (60), was a teacher at a local madrasa. He died of a stroke around 8pm on Wednesday. Sheikh Russell became emotionally disturbed and committed suicide by hanging himself with a scarf around his neck in the backyard of his fishing house that night.
Before his death, Russell wrote on his Facebook wall: In this world, my Hereafter is my Father! The Dr. just pronounced daddy dead! I want prayers, of course I will not leave my father alone. I will also be a partner, InshaAllah. My world, my father is all mine, my university. I ran out of oxygen, my heart was cut off from my body! Dad fought to the death for us, I reciprocated, anxiety, anger, and various bad deeds! Dad, you are my superhero! I don’t have the means to survive, tell me what will I do? It’s 10 o’clock, where did your phone come from? No one found out my whereabouts.
The officer in charge of the Purbadhala (OC) Police Station Mohammad Tauhidur Rahman confirmed the incident and said that police had already gone to the scene after receiving the news. Legal action will be taken subject to consultation with higher police authorities.
