Prime Minister mourns the death of Prince Khalifa

In a message of condolences sent to King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, Sheikh Hasina said: “On behalf of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and on my personal behalf, I express my deepest condolences to you and, through you, to the brother people of Bahrain for the death of the Prime Minister of Bahrain, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. ”

“The people of Bangladesh are mourning the death of the people of Bahrain and the royal family. Bangladesh has lost a close relative of Bahrain’s longest-serving prime minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. I pray to Almighty God for the eternal peace of his disembodied soul ”.

The 74-year-old caliph died Wednesday morning at the Mayo Clinic in the United States, the Bahrain News Agency reported.

He has been Prime Minister of Bahrain since independence in 1971. He was one of the oldest Prime Ministers in the world.

During the Arab Spring of 2011, Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman’s skill did not provoke protests in the Bahraini government. However, the protesters at the time demanded the resignation of Khalifa bin Salman, accusing him of corruption. Bahrain’s prime minister has harshly criticized the protests in Arab countries, demanding a change of government.

The Al Khalifa family has ruled Bahrain since 183.

Khalifa bin Salman went to Germany for treatment earlier this year. It was not immediately clear what type of illness he suffered from. He returned to the country in March. Later, last August, he went abroad again. At the time, his visit to the state media was called a “private trip abroad.”

Bahrain, a close ally of Saudi Arabia and the United States, has joined a “peace agreement” with Israel to normalize relations in the Arab world. The Fifth Fleet of the United States Navy is based in Bahrain.
