For the first time, Bangladesh has shared the information of suspected traffickers with Interpol. A police officer said this on Tuesday. This initiative to stop the kidnapping and murder of immigrants.
This week, Mintu Mia has been listed in the ‘Red Notice’ as the first fugitive from the International Police Organization as the first trafficker in Bangladesh.
Syeda Jannat Ara, Special Superintendent of Police, said she was the first of six traffickers included in Bangladesh’s Interpol.
Syeda Jannat told the Thomson Reuters Foundation that the traffickers swindled money from Bangladeshis by saying they would give them jobs abroad. They were then taken hostage in Libya and tortured for money.
Keeping their information on Interpol means there will be restrictions on their movement because they are on the ‘Wanted’ list no matter what country they go to. Currently, 60 Bangladeshis are on Interpol’s “Red Notice” list.
As Bangladesh is one of the world’s largest exporters of labor, it runs the risk of being trafficked. Every year around 6 lakh of workers go abroad in search of work.
Bangladesh has taken various measures to prevent trafficking. Local police in Bangladesh have described it as a “strong operation”. Last June
Bangladesh police arrested at least 50 people. These accused people take money from people by promising them jobs abroad.
Bangladesh launched such an arrest operation after killing 24 Bangladeshi immigrants in Libya.
