Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh has convened a central conference (council) for the first time after the death of Allama Ahmad Shafi.
The conference will be held next Sunday (November 15) at Darul Uloom Mueenul Islam Hathazari Madrasa in Chittagong, known as the custodial fort.
On that day, official activities will begin at 10 am in the Hathazari Madrasa auditorium and the council will continue until 3 pm.
It will be chaired by Allama Muhibullah Babungari, a high-ranking naib amir of the organization who renounced custody during the lifetime of Allama Shafi and the uncle of current Secretary General Junaid Babungari.
Hefazat Central Committee Organization Secretary Azizul Haque Islamabadi confirmed the information to Jugantar on Wednesday.
He said that some 350 senior Hifazat leaders would decide who would be the successor to the late Allama Ahmad Shafi.
Hefazat leaders and activists have already started fighting over the central conference. However, the council will be held with the exception of Maulana’s followers Anas Madani and Allama Shafi, the sources said.
Allama Shafi’s supporters have called it an “attempt to seize” custody of current Secretary General Junaid Babungari and an illegal council.
According to sources, Ameer’s position in the organization was vacated with the death of Ameer Ahmed Shafi of Hefazat on 18 September. Over the past few years, the conflict between the followers of Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi and Secretary General Junaid Babungari has been extreme.
According to sources, Allama Shafi removed Junaid Babungari from the post of deputy director of Hathazari Madrasa in June this year. Instead, the responsibility was given to Maulana Sheikh Ahmed, a high-ranking muhaddith of the madrasa.
Because of this, Allama Shafi voluntarily resigned as Director General of Hathazari Madrasa in the face of two days of student protests in Hathazari last September. At that time, Anas Madani, Shafi’s son, was forced to make several decisions, including his release.
Allama Ahmad Shafi died shortly after. Since then, Allama Junaid Babungari has been the sole influence in Hathazari Madrasa and Hefazat-e-Islam. Shafi’s followers were cornered.
They announced their position through the council announcement on November 15. Allama Shafi’s supporters may be removed from various positions on the council, including Nayeb Amir, deputy general secretary and publicity secretary, the sources said.
The names of 3 people such as the Emir of Hefazat-e-Islam are being discussed. They are: Allama Muhibullah Babungari, Central Naib Amir of Hifazat, Junaid Babungari, the current Secretary General and Maulana Noor Hossain Qasemi, Emir of Dhaka Metropolitan.
However, Hifazat activists in the Chittagong region think that Allama Muhibullah Babungari or Allama Junaid Babungari will be the next Emir of Hifazat.
In this case, his followers claim that the name of the current secretary general Allama Junaid Babungari is at the top considering that he is acceptable as the new Emir of Hifazat and has no political aspirations.
In addition, the general secretary of the organization in the Jamiat Ulema Islam, the general secretary Maulana Noor Hossain kasemi, the Khilgao makhajanula Ulum Madrasa Maulana Nurul Islam Jihadi, the director of Fatikchharhi Jamia ubaidiya nanupura madrassa, Maulana Salahuddin nanupuri, the committee member of Hathazari Madrasa Madrasa, Maulana Salahuddin nanupuri, the member of the Hathazari Madrash committee. Rahman and Maulana Mamunul Haque, Jamia Rahmania Arabia’s senior muhaddith in Dhaka, are notable, several leaders of the organization said.
On condition of anonymity, some central Hefazat leaders told Jugantar that Qaumi’s court and ordinary religious people were looking to Hefazat’s council. Our only requirement is to elect someone who is acceptable to all and who does not have political aspirations as Hefazat Amir and Secretary General.
As well as choosing people who will be controversial above all else who will continue to work with dedication to the organization.
In addition, experienced, visionary, and leadership-oriented individuals should reach the organization’s top leadership, which is widely and internationally discussed throughout the country.
Maulana Zakaria Noman Fayezi, secretary general of Hatahazari upazila of Hatafazar, said he was expected to attend the conference to be held on November 15.
He said that some 350 central senior rabbis from Hefazat would decide who would replace the late Allama Shafi. Meanwhile, your preparations for the conference are almost complete.
On the other hand, a source said that they are rejoining several senior academics from the Qaumi arena, who had resigned for various reasons.
Among them are Allama Abdul Halim Bokhari of Patia Al-Jamia Al Islamia Jamiriya Madrasa, Mufti Arshad Rahmani, Director of the Bashundhara Islamic Research Center, and Allama Sultan Yaok Nadvi, Director of Chittagong Darul Maarif Madrasa.
Hefazat-e-Islam’s deputy general secretary, Maulana Moinuddin Ruhi, was contacted about the upcoming council and claimed it was illegal and an attempt by the organization to “snatch”.
He told Jugantar on Wednesday night that Maulana Muhibullah Babungari had resigned on her own. So how do you have the authority to convene the council? During Allama Shafi’s lifetime, Muhibullah Babungari openly opposed Hefazat. Basically, Junaid plans to form a pocket committee to take Babungari Hefazat under his control. It is completely illegal and unconstitutional.
Stating that Hifazat-e-Islam is a united platform of consensus Muslims, Maulana Moinuddin Ruhi said that Hifazat was formed with people of consensus who needed a movement to protect the faith of Muslims.
But we learn that Junaid Babungari wants to appoint a person to be the general secretary of a partner party of the 20-party alliance. Therefore, placing politicians in the main responsibility of the organization is clearly unconstitutional.
The deputy general secretary, who was the founder of Hefazat-e-Islam, claimed that the organization was now giving priority to those belonging to the “Jamaat-e-Islam and Manhaji group”, minus the followers of Allama Shafi.
Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, a non-political Islamic organization based on Chittagong Qaumi Aqeedah, was formed on January 19, 2010 in the Darul Uloom Hathazari Madrasa auditorium.
At that conference, the late Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, the founder of the organization, was nominated as Amir. Initially, Allama Sultan Yaqoob Nadvi, director of Darul Maarif Madrasa in Chittagong, was appointed general secretary, but then Allama Junaid Babungari was given the responsibility.
Hefazat made its debut through insults to the Prophet and the Prophet, opposition to women’s development policy and secular education policy, but in 2013, the organization came to the global forefront through the blockade of Shapla Chattar the May 5 demanding 13 points.
